Program Description and Registration 

A free 3-hour ZOOM meeting on college preparation and admissions, presented by a national leader in these fields, will be offered on Saturday, September 26, 2020, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for parents/guardians of girls eligible to participate in the San Joaquin Expanding Your Horizons (SJEYH) Conference this year or who participated last year.  Conference volunteers may also participate in the Parent Program.  

Topics will include the benefits of a college education, college preparation and California a-g requirements for University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) admissions, college readiness grades 9-12, UC and CSU admissions eligibility, community college transfer pathways to UC and CSU, and financial aid.

Registration for the Parent Program is required and is separate from registering your daughter for the SJEYH Conference. You will need to provide your name and email address when registering.  Register for the SJEYH Parent Program.  There is no fee to register, and more than one parent/guardian per household may participate via ZOOM under a single registration.

9:30-9:40 – Welcome to the Parent Program and ZOOM Protocols 

9:40-12:30 – Preparations and Pathway to College, College Admissions, Financial Aid and California’s Higher Education System  

Presenter: Michael Trevino, Education Planner and College Consultant

Michael is a national leader in undergraduate, graduate and professional school preparation and admissions with more than 20 years of experience as a dean or director of admissions.  He has extensive knowledge across the spectrum of higher education from community colleges to the nation’s most selective colleges and universities and is a regular presenter at schools, conferences and workshops.  Michael served as the Director of Undergraduate Admissions for the UC system and led admissions functions at the UC Hastings College of the Law, UC San Francisco, UC Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy, and performed admissions functions at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Boston University School of Law, and the University of Washington.

The Parent Program Agenda and useful resource lists are provided in advance of the meeting.  The resource information will help you encourage your daughter’s interest in STEM and plan for college.  

Please print the Parent Program Agenda and the CSU-UC a-g Freshman College Admission Requirements Comparison, provided below, for use during the Parent Program.  The CSU-UC a-g Comparison will be discussed at several points in the presentation, and a printed copy will be useful.  The other resources can be reviewed at your leisure.

Zoom Meeting Access and Protocols

 The parent/guardian who is registered for the Parent Program will receive an email from the SJEYH Conference by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, with instructions on how to access the ZOOM meeting that starts at 9:30 a.m.  You must follow the instructions and ZOOM link provided in the email to access the Parent Program. 

 A web-based tutorial on joining ZOOM meetings is available if you are unfamiliar with ZOOM.  You are encouraged to view the tutorial and test your computer in advance of the Parent Program meeting.  See: https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362193-How-Do-I-Join-A-Meeting-

 You are encouraged to access the Parent Program ZOOM meeting by 9:25 a.m. to allow yourself sufficient time

  • to access the ZOOM meeting and
  • be granted access to the meeting by the SJEYH host.

 During the Parent Program:

  • Only the presenters will be viewable to the participants. Participants themselves will not be viewable. 
  • All participants will be muted. Only the presenters will be heard.
  • The meeting will not be recorded.
  • To ask a question of the presenter, participants will need to use the ZOOM “chat” function. The chat function will be monitored by SJEYH host who will compile questions for the presenter to address as time allows.
